Music Helps (UK)

Music Helps will inspire and equip you to use music to support someone living with dementia, at home or in a residential setting.

Jane, an experienced music therapist, will guide you through the 5 chapters of this 4-hour course, which were designed with a multicultural audience in mind. No prior musical skills are necessary!

Along the way you’ll meet a number of care practitioners, managers, family caregivers, people with lived experience of dementia and others who will show you what music in dementia care can look like, how easy it is to use and the impact it can have.

Chapters

1: your relationship with music
2: focusing on dementia
3: using music
4: musical techniques
5: putting learning into practice

How it works

Each chapter is broken into a series of sections. You need to complete every section to be eligible for the certificate available at the end of the course to evidence your learning, but you can do so at your own pace and take a break any time.

You’ll always be able to see how far you’ve progressed and what lies ahead, as well as return to things that interest you or pick up again after a cup of tea!
